As Netflix expands it's catalog of offerings to customers, it's first original series, "Lilyhammer," is set to debut on Feb 6.In addition to the premiere, all eight shows of the first season will be made immediately available for subscribers of the internet video subscription service. Netflix's chief content officer, Ted Sarandos said in a statement Tuesday, "If you love the first episode, there is no need to wait until next week, or to set a DVR, to catch the next one."
"Lillyhammer" stars Steven Van Zandt, guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, as a gangster in the federal witness protection program who is relocated to Lillehammer, Norway. Van Zandt's is no stranger to the TV set, playing a similar role on former HBO original series, "The Sopranos".
A second original series is slated to be offered by Netflix later this year, dubbed "House of Cards". Starring Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards" is an American remake of a British show of the same name. Netflix acquired the rights to the show after outbidding major networks including HBO, spending $100 million for 25 episodes and a 2 year commitment.
