    • Hulu Paying Subscribers Now Top 1.5 Million

With over 1.5 million paying subscribers now, Hulu is clearly growing at a record pace.

Hulu Paid Subscribers 2011 and 2012

Just how fast is the streaming internet TV content provider growing? According to this graph posted by CEO Jason Kilar, Hulu is adding almost 400,000 paid subscribers per quarter. Kilar makes note that the heavy investment in Hulu Plus app development for a number of devices is paying off.

The rapid expansion of subscribers is also probably linked to the ever expanding catalog of shows. For 2011, Hulu added approximately forty percent to its content over the previous year. CW and Univision were among the networks recently added, which now account for TV programs from 5 out of the 6 largest networks in television.

Revenue has grown too, up approximately sixty percent over 2010, to $420 million last year.

As for what to expect in 2012? Kilar boasts,

To that end, we are excited to invest approximately half a billion in content in 2012 on behalf of our users.

I just can't justify the cost of Hulu Plus. Hulu free is good if I want to catch up on an episode I missed, and Colbert / The Daily show - but I can see those shows on Comedy Central's site, too.
